Garrett's Diabetic Alert Dog
Donation protected
April 1st of 2015, Garrett Schreyer was diagnosed with late onset Type 1 diabetes. This disease is what took his sister in her sleep only 6 years ago. My name is Corrin Russell, and I have been dating Garrett for over 6 years. We have done some research and we found the Diabetic Alert Dogs of America. These dogs are trained to be able to sense when their owner is slipping into hypo- or hyperglycemia before it becomes dangerous. It costs $7,500 to train these dogs, with the dog itself costing $500. When I heard the price, I was a little shocked. But if this dog can save Garrett's life, no price to too large. One of the most amazing things is that these dogs can sense this even while they are sleeping. This means that Garrett, his family, and I can have someone that we can trust to protect him, along with being a supportive friend, all the time. Garrett is a very active person. He loves to hunt, build, golf, skateboard, weight lift, and over all be a healthy physical person. There is a large fear of slipping into hypoglycemia while doing the things he loves, which is very scary. I want him to feel safe and to be able to live life to its fullest, even if I cant be there every moment. Even if you are only willing to give a dollar, I give you all of the thanks that I have. Please help me find a dog for Garrett so that he doesnt have to feel so vulnerable to the world.
