James Willcox Odom, 27, of Wichita Falls, Texas, passed away August 2, 2016, in Denton, Texas, following an automobile accident in Alvord, Texas July 26.
A celebration of his earthly life will be held Saturday, August 6, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., at Lakewood Christian Church, 6509 Bosque Boulevard, Waco, Texas. Rev. Richard Roland of Lakewood Christian Church will be officiating. A short visitation will be held following the service.
James was a loyal brother of The Sigma Tau Gamma Delta Epsilon Chapter at Texas State University. He made a positive impact, not only within the fraternity, but with everybody who he came in contact with including his 3 little brothers.
During the Fall of 2007, James was initiated along with his Beta Eta brothers into the Delta Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Tau Gamma. James was dedicated to making the fraternity his home away from home. You could always find him at every charity event, social gathering, or any place which included brothers. As an Active he served as the Delta Epsilon Chapter Membership Chairman. During his time of service the chapter was focused on expanding, Fall ‘09 James Odom oversaw the initiation of the biggest pledge class since the Delta Epsilon Chapter was Re-Founded. His social skills and his ability to leave a lasting impression on people made him the ideal candidate to lead as the membership chair during this exciting expansion.
He also played on our intramural basketball, softball, and football teams. He was never the strongest or the biggest but his heart and dedication made up for anything he lacked in size. James bled blue more than anybody I know, and let me speak for the rest of the Delta Epsilon brothers of Sigma Tau Gamma when I say “We hail thee, Brother Odom” and thank you for making us all better brothers.

James was born in Temple, Texas on March 31, 1989. He graduated from Waco High and Texas State University. He was actively pursuing graduate work at Texas A&M Corpus Christi and at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls.
James worked as a graduate assistant strength coach at Midwestern State University. He loved weightlifting, baseball, music, and most of all his beloved friends. James was a loving, sensitive, and compassionate soul and a blessed influence on family, friends, and students.
James is survived by his parents James G. and Peggy D. Odom of Waco and his brother John Lee Odom of Houston, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Bernard and Bessie Holdbrooks, paternal grandparents James Graydon Odom, Sr and Alene Odom Vernon, and his special bonus grandfather R. B. Vernon.
He is survived by countless loving friends in whom his soul will continue to shine.
