Gabriel's CDH Battle
Donation protected
We are a young growing family. I am a nurse and my husband is a disabled Army Veteran currently working as a mechanic. My husband has a daughter Alivia who is 6 years old from a previous marriage. And together we have a son Zacariah who is 3 years old. We are pregnant with another little boy. His name is Gabriel Alexander.
Gabe is due to be born April 5th. He will be born with a congenital diaphragmatic hernia. CDH affects about 1 in 2500 babies and roughly only about 50% of those babies survive.
The diaphragm is a muscle that controls the lungs ability to breath and also normally separates the chest cavity and the abdomen. In Gabes case the diaphragm did not form completely. His intestines and stomach are in the left side of his chest cavity. This is pushing his heart to the right side of his chest. His left lung is very small and his right is underdeveloped as well.
We have to temporarily relocate to Nashville, TN at the beginning of March. That is a little over 100 miles away from where we currently live.
The reason we have to go to Vanderbilt is because he may have to be put on an ecmo machine. This machine is essentially a heart/lung bypass machine. As soon as he is born he will have to be put on a ventilator but if that doesn't work then they will try the ecmo.
After he is born we are looking at minimum of two months in the NICU. We are hopeful for the best but unfortunately we do not know how long we will be there.
We are asking for donations for housing and other basic necessities that we will need while we are there.
