Hello everyone, my name is Stephanie Torres. I have created this Go fund me to help out my little family. On November 9th I had to rush Jon to the hospital for stroke like symptoms that were eventually ruled out, but he was unfortunately diagnosed with a rare syndrome called Guillain-Barré Syndrome also known as GBS. On top of having that, he was also diagnosed with Lyme Disease and High Blood Pressure.
On November 8th I had taken Jon to St Margaret’s in Hammond where they told us to just go home, stay hydrated and to rest. That’s all. The morning of November 9th, Jon said he was feeling good enough to go to my moms house for breakfast. As we arrived I was unloading the girls and as I went for Luz, I turned around and jon was just collapsed on the floor. Luckily my brother in law was watching and saw when it happened and was already making his way to help him. As we were sitting inside my moms house that is when all the symptoms that presented to be a stroke started to happen. That’s when we immediately loaded him in the car and we’re on our way to Cook as Jonathan does not have insurance. While I was dropping the baby off with a relative no more than 5 minutes Jon told me he couldn’t feel his left side any more. My panic mode switched turned on and I had my emergency lights on, and I zoomed to the nearest hospital I could think of, Trinity. The moment we pulled in we were taken care of quickly and efficiently. Everyone there constantly asked questions, explained to us everything we had questions to and constantly reassured us that we were not gunna go home with out an answer.
Through his stay at trinity, everyone was aware he did NOT have insurance but they said they were to continue treatment no matter. Jon went though so many machines, blood work, x rays etc. he had amazing Doctors, Nurses, care givers, social worker, physical therapist and so much more. Jon spent 17 (18) days total in the hospital. I spent everyday there with him. With the help of family and friends the girls were taken care of and as much as it hurt Luz & Eva to not see papi, it was hurting Jon just as much. But thankfully, Jonathan was finally released!
He finished his antibiotics and was able to come home. As much as we would of love for Jon to be at home and he’s his normal self, he isn’t. Our fight at the hospital he ended, but the fight at home has just begun. GBS, can take months to years to fully recover from. But if you know Jon, he will make it better that. As of now, Jon needs a walker to walk at any point and cannot be home alone at any time.
To everyone reading this, we are making this GoFund me just to help keep us on our feet. Jonathan was the main provider for our family. I have not been able to return to work because the girls and Jon need my help 24/7. If you can donate anything, we appreciate it from the bottom of our hearts.
Thank you so much, enjoy your holidays!
