Hello-my name is Edgar Guzman, and this is my mother, Hilda Guzman. My mother is the eldest of 10 siblings in our family. She is the mother of two (myself, including my sister Denise Guzman) and a loving and nurturing grandmother of 7 grandchildren. My mother is the soul and foundation of our family. She is the type of person that always finds the silver lining in negative situations. She is always there to lend a hand, provide sound advice, and guide others in the right direction. Up until today, my mother has selflessly put others first. My mother has a gentle soul and a loving heart. She is passionate, inviting, kind and gives tough love when needed. She is always honest and true to herself. She is my role model.
My mother has faced a lot of obstacles over the past 8 years. Despite all the adversity, she never complained or let them define her as a person. She has carried-on and showed the world the importance of strength and perseverance.
In 2013, my mother was diagnosed with Glioblastoma-brain cancer. After a few evaluations, her medical team of Neurologists and Oncologists determined that the best course of action would be to surgically remove the tumor from her brain. After testing, that tumor was diagnosed to be stage 3 brain cancer. My mother made a successful recovery from surgery and immediately started chemotherapy and radiation treatment. That surgery and treatment allowed her to enjoy 8 more years next to her loved ones without any pain and suffering.
This past October, we received the unfortunate news that my mother’s brain cancer woke-up from its dormant state and was more aggressive than ever. Her medical team immediately performed a biopsy and diagnosed her with stage 4 brain cancer. My mother’s tumor is growing quickly and deeply penetrated in her brain. Her medical team has advised against surgery and have recommended radiation and chemotherapy as the only alternative to help mitigate it. This is her only hope and option for enjoying the rest of her life.
This is going to be my mother’s toughest fight. My sister and I are faced with coming to terms with our mother’s diagnosis. My mother is fighting hard to enjoy the rest of her life and we are doing everything we can to address the mounting medical bills we have to pay. With a humble heart, we ask for your support. Every little bit will go a long way to help us with my mother’s medical bills and ongoing treatment.
Thank you in advance for your consideration and support. Please keep my mother and family in your thoughts and prayers as we continue on this difficult journey together. I will keep you all updated on my mother’s progress as we fight this cancer together.
Any funds raised and not required for the care of my mother will be paid forward to help those in need.
