Earl Hughes, aka Sir Earl, passed away from a non-covid related heart attack. He was my friend and the creator of Sir Earls Mirror House on Touro St. in New Orleans.
RIP to the dearest, most creative man, my friend Earl Hughes.
He was a truly giving, loving, free-spirited creative genius and I will miss him dearly. We shared so much over the years, work, inspiration, dreams and friendship.
He was a passionate artist and family man and his family needs help.
Earl is survived by his grandmother Betty.
Betty lives on the left side of the shotgun she shares with Earl and his sons, decorated by Earl with her name in glass and mirror.
I spoke with her yesterday at length and she said Earl went out in style.
But finances have been drained and she cant afford the $700 needed to put his name on his headstone. She also mentioned that the inside of Earl’s side of the house is leaking rain and she needs $1600 to get it repaired...or repair Earl’s creative repair.

I’m no stranger to fundraising in a financial crisis. And I’m committed to helping Betty, who’s on a fixed income, by raising this money
A. to honor Earl as he needs to be honored with his name marking his burial and
B. to preserve this precious piece of architecture/art
Big change happens in small increments, so don’t hesitate if you can only spare a tiny amount.
Simple things.
As Earl always said. Simple things.
