The Full Metal Beavers are facing a difficult moment. Our mentor, who was an essential part of our journey, was excessed by the school and is no longer able to guide us. Our first workspace was Jamaica Gateway to the Sciences, but with limited support from the school we were only given restricted hours — a disadvantage that made it difficult for us to thrive. Still, Full Metal Beavers became a place where young people could learn, create, and grow together.
Every year, The Full Metal Beavers has been more than just a team — it has been a safe space where young people discover their potential. Our mission every day is to motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in STEAM-related fields, inspire them to become leaders and innovators, and enhance self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills. For many of the students who walk through our doors, this mission is more than words — it is their first chance to be believed in, their first opportunity to explore science and technology without fear of failure, and their first glimpse of a future they never thought was possible.
Now, without our mentor’s guidance and without a space to continue our work, the organization cannot move forward as it once did. What makes this even more challenging is the reality of New York City: rent and space are incredibly expensive, and without institutional backing, securing a home for our team has become nearly impossible. We need funding and support to find a space where students can continue building, learning, and growing as a community.
