Assalamu Alaikum — peace be upon you — and thank you for taking a moment to read our story.
My name is Ali Abu Tair. I’m from Gaza, husband to my beloved wife, Doaa, and father to our two boys, Karim, 12, and Karam, 8. After eight years of waiting, we are also preparing to welcome our baby girl very soon.
Today, my family is living in a tent. We have lost our home, I have lost the work that supported us for years, and with our daughter’s birth approaching, I am struggling to provide even the basic things she will need.
Before the war, I spent more than a decade working in healthcare, mainly in anaesthesia. For many years, I worked at Al-Amal Hospital with the Palestine Red Crescent Society in Khan Younis. I loved my profession and was proud to care for people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
Even after the war began and my own family was displaced, I continued going to the hospital and doing my humanitarian work.
During the siege of Al-Amal Hospital, I was detained while I was on duty and held for nearly 50 days. After my release, I was warned not to return to my job, and returning was no longer safe for me. The work that had supported my family for years was suddenly gone, and I was left without a stable source of income.
At the same time, our home was destroyed, and we lost almost everything we had built over the years. We have been displaced again and again, and today the tent is the place we call home.
From the home we once had to the tent we live in today.
Sitting among the ruins of our home, holding one of the anaesthesia books I recovered from the rubble.
We try our best to make life feel normal for Karim and Karam, but living in a tent comes with constant challenges — heat, cold, wind, limited clean water, insects, and the daily struggle to find food, medicine, and other basic necessities.
Now our baby girl is almost here.
After waiting eight years for her, I wish we could be preparing for her arrival the way any family would hope to. Instead, I am worried about the simplest things: a safe place for her to sleep, newborn clothes, diapers, blankets, baby supplies, and a warm and clean place for her and her mother.
There is also an important medical need within our family that requires treatment outside Gaza. Because of this, the possibility of safe evacuation remains an important part of our hope for the future. When circumstances allow, we hope to leave together as a family, access the medical care that is needed, and begin rebuilding our lives somewhere safe.
My cousin Bilal, who knows our situation closely and whom I trust, is organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my family and helping us manage the donations.
Your support will help us with:
- Moving from the tent into safer temporary shelter
- Preparing the basic necessities for our newborn daughter
- Food, clean water, medicine, and daily family needs
- Medical needs and preparations for possible evacuation
- Giving Karim and Karam more stability after everything they have lived through
Our goal is simple: to get our family out of the tent, safely welcome our daughter, protect our children, and begin rebuilding some stability in our lives.
I spent many years helping people when they were at their most vulnerable. I never imagined that one day I would be the person asking others to help my own family.
If you are able to donate, any amount can make a real difference. If donating is not possible, sharing our story with someone else can help us reach people who may be able to stand with us.
We have lost almost everything, but I am still doing everything I can to keep my family together and welcome our baby girl with dignity, safety, and hope.
Thank you from my heart for reading our story, sharing it, or standing with my family in any way you can.
