My name is Sonia Almaraz . For over 10 years, I shared my life with my best friend and life partner, Yari, by my side. In February of 2025, she was kidnapped by ICE; it’s been over a year.

What makes things worse is that Yari has chronic lymphocytic leukemia. While in Eloy Detention Center, she lost 70 pounds, experienced skin blotching, bruising and bleeding.

I have fought so hard to make sure she didn’t die there. Over 2000 people signed my petition to liberate her, 30 elected leaders supported my efforts, and 50 doctors signed an open letter to save Yari’s life. Thanks to everyone, Yari might be liberated to fight her legal case at home.

We need to get her to a specialist right away. She needs medical evaluation, cancer biopsy, and rehabilitation treatment. She also suffers from more chronic ailments like lupus, due to the conditions she lived in for the past year.
