On October 26th, 2014, Michael Alexander Fredericks’ life was forever changed by a devastating motorcycle accident. The physical damages to his body rendered him “dead at the scene,” only to be revived via CPR, by a nurse who happened to be running late for work, saw the accident and stopped to assist. Michael, affectionately referred to by his loved ones as Alex, was miraculously brought back to life, and rushed to the hospital. The surgeons told his family that the next few days would be critical, and there was a very real chance that he would not make it through.

In the aftermath of a medically induced coma and twenty-eight surgeries later, Alex has overcome some of the most challenging obstacles that he will ever face in his entire life. Unable to speak, move, or even make eye contact initially, Alex has learned to do all of the above, in the last few months. While he still has a very long way to go, his condition has progressed to where he can verbally respond to questions, gradually move his arms and legs, and is now showing signs of being able to swallow (which means he will likely be able to eat solid foods soon). He has shown such physical and mental resilience and, not only is his family and friends proud of him, but there is no level of gratitude that can amount to how we feel to have him here with us, today.

While Alex continues to make strides in his recovery, it is the unfortunate truth that he has been declared permanently disabled, as a result of the brain damage (lack of oxygen to the brain) that he suffered in the accident.

Alex knows that he is loved by so many that continue to pray for him and cheer him on as he fights to get back to some normalcy, and his family will be forever grateful to those who have stepped up to support him in his most ominous time of need. The ones who have stood by him throughout this ordeal are the ones who motivate him to keep trying, although it is very difficult most of the time. He continues to create miracles on his own, as he lives and breathes today is a miracle in itself.

Alex now tells his family that he wants “home,” and that he is coming with us, when we leave the hospital in the evenings. This GoFundMe page was set up so that Michael’s family can pay for rehabilitative services, as his insurance will not cover the expenses for rehab. Your support here will get Alex exactly where he needs to be, which is home.

There are no words to express our eternal gratitude to those who are willing and able to assist our family while Alex recovers. Only God knows how grateful we are that his life was spared, he is recovering, and that he’s got an army of people behind him, to see him through it all.

Thank you for your support, and thank God for miracles.
