Fred Andrew Miksa – father, husband, brother, and friend – passed away on Sunday morning, July 19, after a battle with brain cancer. He was only 61.
Fred had a very challenging life. It ended after months of decline, during which this physically powerful carpenter endured weakening muscles and, eventually, paralysis. He had spent his life building houses for others and creating art from bits of metal – the frustration of losing his strength and the skills in his hands must have been agonizing.
In the months leading up to his final days, Fred with his wife Sheree had planned to finally celebrate a quiet and happy time of their lives in West Virginia by building a cozy, rustic home. In typical Fred style, he began with a small koi pond with a waterfall and garden of lilies and ferns, surrounded by his metal sculptures. Their house was planned and materials were delivered, but before Fred could drive the first nail, his health had worsened. His final home, a place to slow down and enjoy his life with his wife, remained a dream.
Fred’s love of animals and his soft heart were both blessings and curses. Although he was frugal, it was difficult for Fred to save much money; buying health insurance was impossible. We built this site to help cover his remaining medical expenses and, perhaps, provide a little help to build the home he wanted Sheree to have.
Please help, if you can, as a tribute to Fred.
With love,
The Miksa, Miksha, McShaw, and Gunton Family
