Support needed for Fr Daniel Ene Liver Transplant & Recovery

As many of you know, Father Daniel has not been feeling well for more than a month. He complained of fatigue, inability to eat or sleep, and over time, these symptoms worsened. On August 13, he was taken with an ambulance from the parish house to the Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, where he received a cruel diagnosis: acute liver failure, which was also the result of other sufferings accumulated over time. It was devastating news for him, Pb. Flavia, our sister community in Rochester, but also for us in Upstate and Central New York. Heartbreaking because a total liver transplant for a rare blood type was urgently needed.

During these trying times we could feel the presence of God and the power of prayer. From his hospital bed, in terrible pain, Father Daniel sent messages of encouragement and exhortation to all his disciples, whether in Rochester, Syracuse, Buffalo, Ithaca or Albany, but also in his missionary territory in Latin America and in other parishes that over time initiated or supported them.

We, who had the opportunity to see him in terrible pains on the hospital bed, could feel God’s gentleness, love and work in his every voice and word.

For more than 22 years, Father Daniel tirelessly served the Romanian community in Upstate, Central and Western New York State, and then, as Secretary of the Metropolia and Dean for the Eastern USA, from 2008 he has supported and established other communities in New Jersey, Connecticut , Virginia and Washington. Driving hours and hours to serve there on Saturdays and then back to Rochester on Sundays, Father's life was dedicated to preaching the Word of God. And he didn't stop there, he became both a mentor of the ladies' organization, AROLA, and of the Education Commission. Under the guidance of Father Daniel, the work of these two organizations was useful both to the little ones, through the Sunday Schools, the Religion Olympiad, the summer camp of the Metropolia, as well as to Christian women through the multiple AROLA projects initiated together with the Executive Committee of the organization.

In 2018, the year of Romania's Centenary, Father Daniel found his second ministry, that of a missionary in Latin America. You can find more details about his missionary work in these articles (in Romanian): Povestea a 20 de ani..., Chipul preotului misionar... .

Dear ones, words are too few to describe who and what defined our Father's work before this very difficult news of the transplant.

However, our Good and Merciful God did not leave him: in just 5 days a compatible liver was found and, after a surgery that had its own difficulties, Father found himself in the ICU starting a long and extremely difficult recovery. The Jesus Prayer and the Psalter were the most important healing instruments of Father Daniel, together with the hands, experience and heroism of the doctors and nurses, and above all, everyone’s prayer.

All these years, the sister Church in Rochester has done and still does enormously for Father, that is why we, those in Syracuse, have taken the initiative to do something to support Father Daniel and Pb. Flavia.

Father Daniel will have to pay out of pocket a rather large amount. There's a lot more to do: co-pay costs, weekly visits to the Outpatient Department, blood tests, special needs, transportation and medications. Neither Father, nor Pb. Flavia, thought they would ever end up here.

We will not go much into these details, every one of us knows them well. Many people have asked how they can donate and that's why we created this GoFundMe campaign.

Așa cum mulți dintre dumneavoastră știți, Părintele Daniel a început să se simtă din ce în ce mai rău de mai bine de o lună. Acuza oboseală, neputința de a mânca sau a dormi și în timp, aceste simptome s-au agravat. În data de 13 august a fost luat cu salvarea și dus de la casa parohială la Spitalul Strong Memorial din Rochester unde a primit un diagnostic crunt: acute liver failure care a fost și rezultatul altor suferințe adunate în timp. A fost o veste zdrobitoare pentru dânsul, Preoteasa Flavia, comunitatea noastră soră din Rochester, dar și pentru noi cei din Upstate și Centrul Statului New York. Zdrobitoare pentru că era urgent nevoie de transplant total de ficat pentru o grupă rară de sânge.

În aceste momente dificile am putut simți prezența lui Dumnezeu și puterea rugăciunii. De pe patul de spital, în dureri îngrozitoare, Părintele Daniel a transmis mesaje de întărire și îndemn tuturor ucenicilor săi, atât din Rochester, Syracuse, Buffalo, Ithaca sau Albany, dar și din tărâmul său misionar din America Latină şi din alte parohii pe care de-a lungul timpului le-a inițiat sau sprijinit.

Noi, cei care am avut prilejul să îl vedem în acele dureri pe patul de spital, puteam citi blândețea, dragostea și lucrarea lui Dumnezeu din fiecare glas și cuvânt al dânsului.

Mai bine de 22 de ani a slujit neobosit comunitatea românească din Upstate, Centrul și Vestul statului New York, iar mai apoi, ca Secretar al Mitropoliei şi Protopop pentru SUA Est, din 2008 să sprijine și să întemeieze și alte comunități din New Jersey, Connecticut, Virginia şi Washington. Ore și ore de condus ca să slujească acolo sâmbăta și apoi la Rochester duminica, viața Părintelui a fost una de propovăduitor al Cuvântului lui Dumnezeu. Și nu s-a oprit aici, ci a devenit atât îndrumător al organizației doamnelor, AROLA, cât și al Comisiei de Educație. Sub îndrumarea Părintelui Daniel, lucrarea acestor două organizații le-a fost de folos atât celor mici, prin Şcolile Duminicale, Olimpiada de Religie, tabăra de vară a Mitropoliei, precum şi femeilor creştine prin multiplele proiecte AROLA iniţiate împreună cu Comitetul executiv al organizaţiei.

În anul Centenarului României, 2018, Părintele și-a găsit însă cea de-a doua slujire, aceea de misionar în America Latină. Puteţi găsi mai multe detalii despre activitatea lui misionară în aceste articole: Povestea a 20 de ani..., Chipul preotului misionar... .

Dragii noștri, cuvintele sunt prea puține în a descrie cine este și ce a definit lucrarea Părintelui nostru înainte de această veste atât de grea a transplantului.

Bunul și Milostivul Dumnezeu însă nu l-a lăsat: în doar 5 zile s-a găsit ficatul compatibil și după o operație care a avut problemele ei, Părintele s-a trezit în ICU începând o recuperare care este de durată și extrem de grea. Rugăciunea inimii și Psaltirea au fost instrumentele vindecătoare cele mai importante ale Părintelui, împreună cu mâinile, experiența și eroismul doctorilor și al asistentelor, şi mai ales cu rugăciunea dumneavoastră, a tuturor.

În toți acești ani, Biserica soră din Rochester a făcut și încă face enorm pentru Părintele, de aceea am preluat noi inițiativa, cei din Syracuse, pentru a organiza o campanie de suport pentru Părintele Daniel și Preoteasa Flavia.

Părintele va avea de plătit out of pocket o sumă destul de mare. Sunt multe altele de făcut: costuri de co-pay, vizite săptămânale la Outpatient Department, analize de sânge , transport , servicii specializate și medicamente. Nici Părintele și nici Psa. Flavia nu s-au gândit vreodată că vor ajunge aici.

Nu vom intra foarte mult în detaliile acestea, pe care fiecare dintre noi le cunoaștem. Mulți ne-au întrebat cum pot să doneze și de aceea am creat acest GoFundMe.
