"Help Me Help Others" School Fund!

Many of you who know me are aware that over the last 16 years I have worked as a design and marketing professional. While I love the creative work, there has always been something missing from this type of career. I've wanted to have a bigger impact on others -- to help people live happier, healthier lives. Recent events have even made it clearer to me that its time for a career change, and to follow the passion that has been brewing since I was a kid, when I first started taking classes in the biological sciences and specifically human physiology.

Over the years I've been increasingly engaged in the subject of FOOD and its impact on preventing and treating disease, its contribution to optimal health and its ability to improve the quality of life through not only treating illness, but also through performance enhancement, and its role in bringing people together socially around a table and within a community. With the epidemics of Cancer, Heart Disease, Diabetes and Obesity; as well as expensive health care costs, there is no better time to focus on just that. I have watched too many people suffer from these health issues and complications with the health care system.

I have decided to go back to school to pursue a career as a holistic nutritionist and health and wellness consultant. I will be attending Bauman College's Nutrition Consultant program and supplementing it with the T. Colin Campell / ECornell certification in Plant Based Nutrition. This will prepare me to take the NANP board exam and become a Board Certified Holistic Nutritionist. I have chosen this program because I believe in the holistic, whole foods approach to diet and lifestyle that it promotes, and because of its departure from the traditional nutrition programs that promote ideas indirectly dictated by food corporation lobbyists (no thanks!).

After completing the 2 year training and getting my board certification, I plan to utilize this knowledge to:

1. Work with Oncologists to develop individualized menu plans and nutrition guidance for cancer patients, as well as educate and guide clients on preventative diet plans for cancer, diabetes and heart disease.

2. Provide expert evaluation of diet and lifestyle, and to make recommendations for food selections, supplementation, and lifestyle choices which will enable my clients to reach their best health.

3. Develop a whole-food, plant-based cookbook that will help people transform their way of eating in a realistic and delicious way.

4. Give talks on nutrition and provide guidance in schools to help kids develop healthy lifestyles early on in life.

5. Effect policy regarding food sources, GMOs, and processed foods.

6. Possibly open my own cafe down the line!

This is something I am so excited to do. I can not express how anxious I am to get started. I have plenty of drive, passion and ability -- what I don't have are the funds to get going. That's where you come in. Over the years of the demanding rollercoaster ride self-employed as a designer and now hampered by a recent overuse injury, I just have not been able to get ahead financially. Many of you know it's a big deal for me to ask for this type of help --- so you know how badly I want it to happen!

The good thing is you get something out of it too. Depending on what you donate I have different gifts to give you as thanks.

Of course, I will continue to be creative, make art and music, and will be able to utilize my design and marketing skills to make my health career successful. In fact, I see taking my creative life to a whole new level the more I am engaged in being healthy and promoting health.

Also, all profits from my Etsy page will go to my school fund. So if you feel like buying a piece of art, that will help too.
