Restore boats and livelihood of Filipino fishermen

Donation protected
What has happened?
Currently Typhoon Ulysses is causing devastating flooding in the Philippines. This is the third typhoon to hit the country in the past two weeks. The people are in an absolute emergency situation, looking for shelter, not knowing what to do with their lives afterwards.
The affected regions are mainly inhabited by families whose main source of income is fishing. But the typhoon has not only destroyed streets and houses, but also the fishing boats, called Bangka in the Philippines. With this fundraising campaign we want to help families in the town of Aurora to get on their feet and rebuild their businesses. This way they can earn money for themselves and their family, put food on the table and build up their lives bit by bit. The point is that the people can take care of themselves again.

Where does the money go?
On the 19th November 2020 we contacted the filipino department of agriculture which is also the mother agency for fisheries. The reported number of broken boats was situated at 695! These boats are the source of income for many families which is why the collected money will flow into the repair of the broken boats. The repairs are different depending on the destruction caused by the typhoon (e.g. broken engine or steering wheel or destroyed wooden panels on the boat) and cost on average around 30 000PHP (approx. 525 EUR). Our goal is to help as many families as possible. With the donation target of 15000 EUR we can repair about 30 boats and thus help 30 families one step further to be able to go back into business. With a big surplus we will repair more boats. With a small surplus we will donate essential household items such as rice cookers.

Who is organizing this?
We are two friends who want to do good by using their transatlantic friendship. April is based in Manila (Philippines) and has visited the destroyed village of Aurora herself and talked to the families to find out what they need to get back on their feet. Tatjana is a half filipina and is based in Cologne (Germany). After April made Tatjana aware of the destruction, they decided to start the campaign to raise international awareness of the situation and collect donations. This year has been a hard year for many people in the world, but some people are now facing existential issues. It is important to us to support them and to make sure that these people can support themselves in the long run. So if you are well situated right now and want to make a big difference in the life of these families, we would thank you for your donation.

Where does the money go?
On our Instagram page we have posts that explain clearly and transparently how the money is distributed and where it goes. You will learn about the Philippine culture and the meaning of the Bangka. But more importantly, we introduce you to the families whose future depends on your donations. So you can see where the money goes to and who you do something good for.

Your little goodie:
We have uploaded our Poster and a Christmas greeting card for those that are donating money. You can print it or use it as a pdf. The Christmas greeting card can also be used if you want to donate money in the name of someone else, which can also be a nice Christmas gift.

We thank you for your support and wish you good health for the future.
