Hello! My name is Andrea Dover. I am an actress as well as an ice skating coach. And my partner in all of this is Jason Turner. He is an actor, filmmaker and producer.
We have reached points in our acting careers that require a higher level of training. Jason and I made a trip out to the UK from the heart of America and booked a stay long enough to audition and to hopefully hear back from some acting schools.
After auditioning for a few acting conservatoires, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama invited us to a final recall audition. This is for a Masters of Arts in Acting for Screen beginning in fall 2016. Around 30 students are selected from hundreds of applicants. If we make it in, we will devote a year to growing and building our craft.
This is exciting because it is an amazing school that has trained the likes of Judy Dench, Laurence Olivier, Kit Harrington, Carrie Fisher, Andrew Garfield, among others.
We are thrilled but also conflicted. We spent much of our savings to get to the UK for intitial auditions on THIS trip. Several friends have suggested GoFundMe.
The tricky part - the final recall auditions are soon. We have to figure out how to afford to come back. Jason and I will have about four weeks to work and save up upon arriving in Kansas City.
While staying in London (which is VERY expensive), I secured a place to stay until the end of the month. We purchased groceries as much as possible to stretch out the money, eating meals TWICE a day with a couple snacks in between. Jason purchased ramen noodles, chicken, and soup for us to eat on the cheap for several days. It's kind of like being a student already!
Booking in this short amount of time, flights are expensive (especially trans-Atlantic flights). Returning to the UK will cost around $1900+ for flights, $500-$700 for lodging, and up to $100 for transportation. Food will be $40-70 a day depending on if there is a kitchen available. We cooked at the lodging we stayed at most days.
Thank you for your time and consideration! We hope to make it to this recall audition, hit a home run, and get into this school. :-D
A recent example of my work:
I was in a music video, "Against My Better Judgement", by the band ¡MAYDAY!. It is a narrative short that tells a cautionary tale about addiction. Jason appears in it as well, as he was my support for the shooting days. The video has well over 138,000 views and is the most watched video I have ever been a part of.
