A good friend of mine from college named Gemena, that I have known for 30 years was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016. A few months prior to her finding out about the breast cancer she lost her job and her bills began to fall behind.  Due to the aggressive nature of the breast cancer she had to immediately began intense chemotherapy treatment along with several procedures ,and surgeries. Gemena is the proud single parent of a 15-year-old daughter named Giana. Giana has been extremely supportive, and caring towards her mother as she battled breast cancer while maintaining a positive attitude and juggling her school work.

 Additionally, Giana attends a private school that have been like family to her since Gemena being diagnosed. The parents from the school pick and drop her off to and from school and makes sure she gets to her extra curricular activities. This type of support has been essential in minimizing some of the stress for Gemena and Giana. It would be heartbreaking to remove Giana from such a supportive school setting due to lack of funds. High School is one of the most crucial times in a teenagers life. The bills kept coming in and the mortgage has fallen seriously behind. Several members from her community, church, book club, family and even friends from out of state have stepped up and helped with making sure her and daughter have prepared meals to eat and getting Gemena to her several doctors appointments. But she really needs some serious financial help to keep her house and her daughter in school.

 I have known Gemena for a long time and I know that she does not normally ask for anything, but she needs your help in order to get her life back in order.  If you have never had a friend or family member receiving treatment for cancer, you could not imagine how very costly it is. Between caring for home, a child and herself, Gemena has had some major stressful moments and distractions worrying about her daughter’s schooling, her medical expenses and various expenses all while trying to trying to stay positive and focused on getting healthy. 

I am trying to raise $20,000 for Gemena and Giana to assist with the many accrued expenses since she lost her job and receiving treatment for breast cancer.  Expenses such as mortgage, medical bills, and school tuition and fees for her daughter Giana, in order to keep her in school.  Please help out by donating to Gemena and Giana.
