This is the Go Fund Me page for FIGHTING FOR THE LIGHT, a faith-based/MMA action indie feature film starring Sage Northcutt.
Sage plays a bad guy who becomes a good guy through spiritual redemption.

I'm John Wesley Downey, the writer and director of the film, seen here with Super Sage Northcutt.

I want to make an uplifting, inspirational film about the power of faith with lots of great action.  Want to help?  Then read on and learn how you can contribute which helps get the movie made.  Be sure and scroll down to the bottom of the page for full information and a few surprises.

Go Fund Me contributions to FIGHTING FOR THE LIGHT goes to covering the prepping, production and post-production
expenses of a professional feature length film.

Our basic goal is 2.5 million dollars, with a stretch goal of 5 million or more.

This page has been up since early 2018 but has not received public promotion until now.

That depends on the fundraising.

If all the money can be raised by the end of 2019, it can be prepped, shot and finished during 2020
and be  out in late 2020, or early 2021.

Sage has already turned down numerous offers to do films with cursing, sex and other negative content, but he is ready to do FIGHTING FOR THE LIGHT.   I knew about his commitment to his Christian faith, so I specifically wrote this role and film for Sage.  I wrote his character and conceived of the action in such a way that it would showcase Sage in his acting debut, especially his athleticism and fighting skills.  I want to make positive, uplifting movies that are inspirational and I can't think of anyone I could team up with who could possibly be more positive than Sage.  Can you?
I want to make movies that provide role models  and examples for audiences, both young and old.   Our world is drowning in information but thirsty for wisdom.  Let's use this powerful medium for a positive purpose.

By raising the production budget through crowdfunding, I can maintain control of the film's content, which is designed to be a  story of spiritual redemption.  When you go to Hollywood studios and production companies, they always insist on changes in casting and the script.   While such changes often make the film more commercial,  they often include the addition of profanity, sexual content and situations not appropriate to this kind of project.  That's fine for Tarantino or Scorcese, but that's not we're trying to do on FIGHTING FOR THE LIGHT.

Your help is needed!  Please make whatever contribution you can to help make this dream become a reality.  No contribution is too small and certainly no contribution is too big!  When you see the completed FIGHTING FOR THE LIGHT on screen,  you'll be able to watch it knowing you helped put it there and made a difference.   Contributions are not tax-deductible.   Public support is critical to launching this project.

Fighting for the Light is the journey of Danny Addison.  Danny is a troubled young man in his early twenties with a big chip on his shoulder.  Cocky and cynical, with serious anger management issues,  he is  on a negative course in life which means certain prison time after his teenage years were spent in foster homes and juvenile facilities.   Through the intervention of two mentors, one a  wealthy software mogul, the other a seasoned MMA coach, Danny is able to make a course correction in life and move in a positive direction as he redeems himself through Christian faith.

The script takes place mainly in the present day plus a few scenes in ancient Jerusalem.  The script took 28 months to write, has 71 locations and over one hundred speaking parts.

This is a screenshot of Sage in a TV commercial for Hasbro light sabers he made in 2011.  He also did a commercial for Wolverine claws for Hasbro at age 12.

One of the reasons I'm so confident Sage can make the transition to action movie star is that he's been in front of a camera his whole life, at his competitions and fights, doing print work and fitness modeling and numerous TV commercials.   Sage is at home in the spotlight.

In May of 2009 I first met Sage's parents and started discussions about making a film with him.  The next year, I wrote an action-adventure script called THE LIGHTNING KID for Sage, who was then fourteen. Production funding was obtained but the investors eventually backed out,  a common event in the film industry. T
hat project had to eventually be scrapped because Sage was growing and getting older and could no longer play the fifteen year old character in the script.

In 2011, I made an 18 minute documentary called "Introducing Sage Northcutt" which was watched by over 250,000 people on the internet. The documentary is about Sage and his amazing martial arts and fighting success from age six onward.

In 2014, I gave Sage a cameo role in a short film I was making just to give him some acting experience.   Here's a frame from that project.
