We write this message with a very heavy heart for our 4 month old fur-baby Jack. We instantly fell in love with this beautiful Goldendoodle & he immediately became such an important member of our family (& is the little brother to Toby, our 5 year old Labradoodle).
As some of you know, Jack is in need of medical care & without it, will not survive. He began to fill up with fluid over the course of a few weeks & went from 9 lbs. to 20 lbs. After extensive bloodwork & bile acid tests, we were referred from our local vet to Oakland Veterinary Referral Services in Bloomfield Hills, MI. Oakland performed an ultrasound & found that Jack has an Intrahepatic Liver Shunt. This condition is a liver disease and prevents his liver from filtering & cleaning the toxins and impurities from his blood. Because it is an internal shunt (vs. external), Oakland has referred him to Michigan State University. We are scheduled to go to MSU on March 31st; there they will perform a CT scan & provide us with his prognosis and schedule a surgery date.
Over the past 2 weeks, we have spent over $1,500 on his emergency care (bloodwork, ultrasound, abdominal drains, prescriptions & special low-protein food). We have been given a preliminary cost of surgery, ranging from $5,000 to $7,000.
Due to several factors, we simply cannot afford to cover the entire cost of his surgery however also cannot bare the thought of putting Jack down & losing him. Our dear friend shared with me how GoFundMe works & she pleaded with us to set this up as its very difficult for us to ask for help. We do, however, humbly reach out to others at this time. Jack is super loved & we want to provide him this medical procedure and a healthy life.
