February 9th, 2025 I was diagnosed with a mediastinal mass, over 14cm long.. almost the size of my heart. It was directly next to my heart and pushing on my right lung & aorta causing poor blood flow to my head and reduced capacity in my lung. It was biopsied on February 11th, 2025 and found to be a B1 thymoma malignant tumor. On March 25th I underwent surgery to remove the mass via a sternotomy (a form of open heart surgery) and pathology has confirmed it is a thymoma type B1 Masaoka stage 2a-3. Thymomas are a super rare cancer, that go years without symptoms. However I had symptoms for a year and a half prior and was continually dismissed by doctors that anything was wrong. If it was caught early it would have been a way less invasive of a surgery and possibly no need for radiation. Now I'm facing a longer recovery due to the effects of the tumor on surrounding nerves and my diaphragm. At best I am looking at long term medications and frequent scans to watch for reoccurrence. There's still the lesion on my spine (shown to be benign but aggressive) and a 4mm nodule on my lung to deal with which may require future surgeries and recovery as well.
The medical bills are only just starting and I will require long term care and medications. Radiation isn't off the table either yet. We realize these are hard times for everyone and do not wish anyone to make donations unless they can afford to do so. In all honesty, we were hesitant to do this at all. However, a few have asked us to so we are putting it out there and appreciate the support. Thank you will never be enough. Hold on to your loved ones and be grateful for every day you get.
