Hello, my name is Brooke Buis. I truly appreciate you taking a moment to read my story. My family and I have been blindsided again with a second cancer diagnosis. In December of 2023, I was diagnosed with Stage 1 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma in my right breast. It was hormone positive and HER2 negative. I had a mastectomy and reconstruction on 01/18/2024. Everything went well with the surgery and ended up not needing radiation or chemotherapy. I was told I had a 1 - 3% chance of reoccurrence.
On Memorial Day weeked, I noticed a pea-sized lump in my right breast. I immediately saw my oncologist and she suspected it to be fat necrosis on the ultrasound. We did a follow up visit in August and the lump had growed significantly in size and was painful. She saw changes on the ultrasound and even though she still suspected fat necrosis, she wanted to be safe so she ordered a biopsy. Apparently I am in the 1-3%, because the biopsy came back as Stage 2 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma and is more agressive and growing more quickly than the last tumor. I will be having a portacath put in on 9/25 with my Herceptin, Perjeta, and TC chemotherapy starting on 10/3. I will have 6 rounds of chemo, 1 year of monthly Herceptin and Perjeta infusions to compat the HER2 +, a left side mastectomy/reconstruction and tumor removal after chemo, and 8 weeks of radiation after I am healed from surgery.
My employer stopped my base pay this month so I have no guaranteed money coming in. My savings was drained to supplement my income the last 4 months due to very few sales coming through to earn commission. I have offers for other jobs, but won't be able to get consistent money for 1-2 months while I train. I am doing everything I possibly can to keep my families head above water, but I need help.
Any money donated will be used to secure my rent, pay utilities, groceries, gas, etc. while go through chemotherapy and get back on my feet with a new job. I need at least $2000 before 11/5 so I can pay rent for my son and myself.
Any amount you're willing to contribute is so greatly appreciated, and if you aren't able to contribute money at this time, I completely understand. Sharing with your friends, family, and prayers would mean the world to us as well.
