On June 4th, just days after celebrating Ryley's wedding (June 1st), our family received the news that our dad was told that they suspected he may have cancer. This was delivered to my parents on their 30th wedding anniversary.

This news came as a shock during what should have been a time of joy and celebration for our family. Instead, we find ourselves navigating this challenging journey together. Our dad, who has always been our provider, now faces the toughest battle. As he said, "It's not something I wanted to hear, especially on our 30th wedding anniversary."

My dad's diagnosis began with back pain, leading to a scan that revealed a tumor on his spine. This prompted hospitalization to remove part of the tumor pressing on his spinal cord. The surgeon suspected it was cancer, leading to a series of tests and scans. The concern was correct as he was later diagnosed with multiple myeloma. Now, he faces many rounds of chemo, medications, and radiation. And the mental toll that comes with these changes.

What is multiple myeloma? In multiple myeloma, plasma cells are transformed into cancerous cells that grow out of control, crowding out the normal cells that help fight infection.
