Georgie’s Fundraiser

We are George and Chelsea Boutwell, and our son George Boutwell IV is 12 years old. In 2014, when he was 4, he was diagnosed with brain cancer and underwent brain surgery and six weeks of radiation. His operation was a success, and there was no evidence of disease... until August 2022.

We noticed that he developed some right-sided weakness and was unable to open and close his hand, so we immediately went to Children's Hospital in Dallas. His tumors were back and more aggressive, diagnosed as High-Grade Glioma. He immediately started another round of radiation and began taking Temozolomide chemotherapy, one of the most effective treatments for his type of tumor. From August to February, the tumors seemed stable and were not growing.

We took George for his routine three-month MRI and received the devastating news that his tumors have become unresponsive to the very aggressive chemotherapy he was taking and have grown in almost every area on the left side of his brain. The growth from February to May was substantial. His right-sided weakness has progressed, and his speech has severely declined. His oncology team started him on a new chemotherapy regimen, and he will be having infusions every two weeks for three months.

Unfortunately, the chemotherapy he is now taking is less aggressive than the previous one that was not effective, which was considered the number one treatment available for his type of tumor when he started taking it. His oncologist said that if the new treatment doesn't work, he is looking at 3-6 months before passing due to the rapid growth of the tumors. If the tumors continue to grow after this treatment, they will be considered inoperable. In the case that the treatment does not work, he will receive symptomatic treatment to keep him comfortable.

We are starting this fund to help us through this time financially, so we can go out and do things as a family without having to worry about funding. It will also help us keep up with household expenses and potentially provide an early Christmas for George should his disease progress further. Any donations received are greatly appreciated.
