Marc Silver's "Feed Your Neighbor"

Marc Silver, loving husband and father of three worked to eliminate hunger at every opportunity. Now it's our turn to carry forward his efforts. To honor Marc's memory and continue his legacy of giving, our family has created the annual "Marc Silver's Feed Your Neighbor Campaign."

Marc died from colon cancer at age 48 on November 15, 2012. When Marc was diagnosed with cancer in June 2012, he faced his illness with incredible courage and selfless devotion to others. He continued to look for ways to make others' lives more comfortable and his optimism outpaced every challenge he faced. Marc left a legacy of courage and gratitude.

Throughout his life, Marc expressed thoughtfulness and generosity at every turn. He always kept an eye out for those less fortunate, giving of himself in so many ways.

Marc Silver's Feed Your Neighbor Campaign
Among Marc's many passions, food ranked high on the list. Marc loved cooking, savored late night sundaes and cupcakes with our children and exploring culinary experiences locally, throughout NYC and around the globe. Marc's early interest in food led him to publish "Compliments of the Chef" in 1988 to fund his graduate school education.

Marc was keenly aware that for many, including people in our own area, food was not plentiful and in fact, many were going hungry. Whether impacted by unemployment, illness, family crisis, new immigrant status or other challenges, too many of our neighbors lacked the food needed to meet basic needs.

Marc inspired our family and others to make a difference. He became involved in volunteering at the Food Bank of Westchester, preparing and serving meals at Neighbor's Link, chairing Temple Beth El's Annual Food Drive, and keeping the shelves stocked at the Interfaith Food Pantry.

Carrying Marc's Efforts to Reduce Hunger
To honor Marc's memory and continue his legacy of giving, our family has created the annual "Marc Silver's Feed Your Neighbor Campaign."

The Campaign will be launched on January 19, 2014, which would have been Marc's 50th birthday. It will take place over four weeks ending on February 14, 2014. This one-month effort, which will occur annually, also coincides with Martin Luther King's Birthday. Combined, these events provide an opportunity to renew our commitment to kindness and social justice. This timing will also insure that during the coldest months of the year and just following the holiday season, the needs of the hungry will be remembered.

How it Works
100% of funds raised will go directly toward purchasing $100 local grocery store gift cards. Each year, a different not-for-profit 501(c)(3) social service agency will be selected by the Fund as the recipient and the agency will disburse the cards among their most high need clientele.

This year, Neighbor's Link, a 501(c)(3) in Mount Kisco, NY will be the first recipient. Neighbor's Link is a community organization offering the immigrant community ESL classes, job training, nutrition and childcare to improve opportunity for self-sufficiency, stability and employment.
