Food, Rent, Medicine for Alaa's Family in Egypt!
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Jaime. I am a mom and teacher in Toronto. Through donors like you, we have evacuated Alaa's dear family from Gaza. We are now assisting them in Cairo, Egypt, as they heal and begin the next chapter in their lives.
With the incredible kindness of donors, Alaa and her family survived the fighting, famine and illness for many months in Gaza. They evacuated to Cairo in May.
Life in Cairo is very challenging for Alaa, Mahmoud, their baby Jihan, and Alaa's mother, Mama Jehan. They are struggling to get established in their new country and find jobs. There is little support available for refugees there, and it is difficult for women to get jobs. Mahmoud is eager to start working, but a prosthetic leg costs $2,500-$3,500 and he has not been able to access any NGO care.
Can you please share the campaign to help provide meals and rent for their small apartment? We hope to raise $5,000 to provide rent, food, and Mahmoud’s care to be fitted for a prosthetic leg.
More about this extraordinary and loving family:
Alaa and Mahmoud have been married for 3 years and have a 1-year-old baby, Jihan. Mahmoud is a carpenter by trade. When the military attacked, they fled with the clothes on their backs. Mahmoud was shot and his wound became life-threatening. Through your donations, we provided funds for surgery to amputate his leg in early March. He is working hard to recover physically and emotionally; and we promised to help him get a prosthetic leg as soon as possible.
We promised Alaa we would help her family survive this war. Through GFM donations they evacuated to Egypt, just as the attack on Rafah’s border crossing began. They were extraordinarily lucky to have been able to reach safety on the Egyptian side of the crossing. They saw other civilians shot during the attack. They are survivors. Now we need to help them get established in their new country, so this dear family can heal and live with dignity and hope for baby Jihan's future.
Alaa's father and her 4 siblings were killed in the terrible al-Shifa Hospital attack in early April. Miraculously, Alaa's mother survived, and we were able to provide funds for her medical care, food, and transportation to reunite her with Alaa on April 19. They have lost everything, but they have each other.
We humbly ask for your help, because this work requires a village. If you aren't able to donate to their food or rent fund, please SHARE our fundraiser! If you have any questions, please get in touch. I will be happy to connect with you by email or phone.
We call for all hostages to be released. We unequivocally condemn all violence against civilians. We call for a lasting ceasefire and for humanitarian aid to URGENTLY be allowed to reach the hundreds of thousands of children who are at risk of starvation as this war famine deepens. Please take action on behalf of other people's beautiful children by raising your voice for their protection.
May there be peace for all children.
A final reflection: Thank you to everyone who has taken brave action to raise your voice for the protection of children. You may have been told this conflict is too complicated for outsiders to understand; or if you are not Muslim or Jewish, you have no right to get involved. Yet, the protection of all children is morally clear: children are inherently innocent. Thank you for your empathy and compassion.
