Faith over Fear - Christ over Cancer

Donation protected
On Friday night, May 13th, I woke to excruciating pain in my lower back. Immediately, I was taken to the ER for treatment. I’ve never really been sick in all of my 53 years, so this was new for me. The pain was so severe that nothing they administered gave me relief. My BP was 195/125, and after Morphine, Fentanyl, and Valium….A CT confirmed Cancer. Tests indicated cancer in my kidney, liver, adrenal glands, thyroid, with lymph node involvement. There was also a thickening of the esophagus.

We were shocked, and completely numb hearing this. I’ve never been a man of fear, as I’ve served in the military and just recently retired after 28 years on the police force, but immediately and for the first time in my life I was full of fear of the unknown.

My wife is already on disability due to more than 60 surgeries related to Crohns Disease, and her health is already very fragile. We have 2 children still at home, as well. Alyssa is our oldest, with special needs, and our son Andrew is in 10th grade. I am the primary bread winner of our family.

It will be almost 2 years before I can begin drawing my retirement, and although I am nervous about what is ahead of me, right now, my immediate needs are financial. I am praying daily that I will be able to return to work soon.

Several have asked how they can help, and out of those, suggested I consider a GoFundMe campaign. My wife has set them up for others through the years, but this is our first time to do so, ourselves. The Lord has been faithful to us for more than 27 years, and somehow, I know He will continue to take care of us.

This Friday will be our second week without my income, and our main financial needs at the moment are rent, insurance, and utilities, which will hit the first of the month.

Shannon is also in the process of setting up a CaringBridge page to help streamline this journey called Cancer.
