67 year old nurse facing homelessness
Donation protected
Hi, I've been a nurse for 40+ years, mostly working with mothers and babies until the last 4 years when I've become one of the statistics in the current lack of job consideration for employing older women, those over 60 years old. I have used all my superannuation renting in Melbourne and the funds from my house sale in Hobart 11 years ago. During that time I have had some employment despite applying for hundreds of nursing positions, (most temporary) and just enough to maintain my nursing registration. I have continued to study tertiary nursing courses at University to improve the likelihood of being considered for employment. Now I'm 67 and need to work but unfortunately in July 2024, I suffered a second stroke having already secured a job in Launceston. Unfortunately, they couldn't keep my position leaving me with no employment again. I moved back to Tassie for this job intending to start work in July 2024 so my belongings are in storage until I can raise $10,000 to get it transported back to Hobart where I can store it at a reduced cost. I have never applied for unemployment during this period relying on my savings which are now non-existent, I'm now on the aged pension. I have ascertained 3 quotes for my furniture removal to Tassie, these were $8,500-$10,000. Being reunited with my belongings collected over a lifetime would significantly improve my quality of life on the pension as I would no longer be paying cripling storage fees. I will continue to search for paid employment in Tasmania, in the meantime, I will be couch surfing until then.
Thank you for considering assisting me to move on with my life and rewarding employment again.
