Support Face Shield and Mask Production in CA/OR
Please help fund the production of face shields and masks for Alameda/Oakland, CA and Portland, OR area front line workers and volunteers who are lacking the PPE supplies they need to stay safe and keep our communities safe.
Our CA & OR Teams:
Richard & Teddy Tabor of Alameda, CA-
Looking for a way to contribute during this crisis we started making face shields using our 3D printer. Thanks to donations of material and tools from our local merchants, we have delivered face shields to the police department, which is the local clearing house of COVID-19 donations for those on the front line and to Highland Hospital, part of the Alameda County Healthcare System.
Jim Powers & Taura Busson of Portland, OR-
To assist in the COVID19 effort, Jim found a design for 3D printable face shields that are needed by our hospitals, first responders and others providing services on the front line. We are reaching out to everyone who has access to a 3D printer and affiliated with groups in Portland that are organizing those in need of supplies with those who are printing them. To date over 200 affiliates have printed 6,600 3D printed components of face shields.
We are also sewing cloth masks for the community to help ensure the short supply of medical grade masks are available for medical professionals. In addition, Jim is designing and distributing new tools, to make the mask manufacturing process easier and faster, which can be publicly accessed.
All products are being disbursed to hospitals, fire departments, Meals on Wheels Alameda and Portland, senior care providers and others serving as clearing houses for requests.
New requests come in daily as the need for protective gear grows in both states.
Both operations have recently purchased a second 3D printer, for a total of 4, and will get them up and running very soon. We’d like to purchase more printers and sewing machines, along with Lexan sheets for screens, increasingly harder to find 3D printer filament, cotton material and other sewing notions.
Together we will use all donations to offset the cost of materials and machines for our manufacturing efforts as well as others in our communities. We will also donate to those in our affiliate groups who are in need of financial aid to keep producing these products. Once this is over (God speed the day!), surplus funds will be donated to local charities, such as Meals on Wheels Alameda and Portland, Alameda Friendly Visitors, The Alameda Food Bank and other Portland area organizations.
We’ll keep watching to see what new ideas are brewing to speed up or improve mask and face shield design and we adapt to the newest and best as they come to our attention.
The design for the face shield frame comes from Josef Prusa. Prusa Research made the design available to all free of charge.
