The Guitars Antiqua Music Program
began as a parent and community pilot program from a local family in the Lawndale, CA community, who in the wake for the need of an after-school music program, started their very own youth guitar program. The program aimed to reach out to children who lacked the resources to attend after school arts programs. The program is conducted at F.D.R. Elementary School in Lawndale, CA. This is the first time our community has been offered the opportunity to provide children an arts education program. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to discover about the beautiful world of music despite the obstacles they face in their environment. Therefore, it is within our mission to create a program that can facilitate the access to music education and create a place where children can feel safe and free to express themselves without judgement
Our mission is to provide children the opportunity to explore their musical aptitude, to discover an interest in the child's artistic development and to nurture the appreciation of music through discipline, motivation, and involvement. Our program was established to start a new chapter in the community to continue to raise awareness of the importance of music education in our schools and to prove how music can positively affect the social and cognitive development of children.
Our program introduces music education to children through the study of the classical guitar. We work along with other parents, teachers, and community members to offer children the opportunity to learn about the importance of music education. The program is tuition-free to all students as long as they maintain consistent attendance for the duration of the program.
As we approach the end of the school year, our music program has received a highly positive response from parents and teachers. Over the course of the program, the students received instruction in music fundamentals, guitar technique and musicianship skills. We are seeking funds to expand our program for the following year (2019-2020). Funds will be used to cover operational expenses, purchase instruments, and buy materials to run our program.
Your donation will helps us provide students the opportunity to learn about the beautiful world of music. Every donation, high or small, is greatly appreciated because it provides us with the necessary resources to continue to offer our program tuition-free to all eligible students. Guitars Antiqua Music Program is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
