{R}allying + {F}UNding for Evie

Evie Marie is a smart, sweet, sassy, shy and thoughtful 8 year old.  Her health mysteriously started to decline and many doctors were seen with no answers to her constant and worsening symptoms of severe headaches, daily nausea , and neck & back pain.  On June 5th 2015, Evie took a turn for the worst and her mother and father took her to Blank Children's Hospital in Des Moines.  After performing a CT scan, a mass in her brain was discovered.  Evie and her mother Ali were immediately life flighted to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.  Within 72 hours of the brain mass being discovered, Evie went through an 8 hour surgery to remove the malignant Medulloblastoma Brain Tumor.  Due to the proximity to the brainstem, some of the tumor was left behind to avoid any damaging long term effects.

Evie has undergone radiation and is 25 weeks into her 55 week course of chemotherapy.  In December, an MRI showed a new spot on her brainstem that had been damaged from the radiation.  This caused damage to the nerves that control her left side and affected her independence and self care.  As a result, she will be in a wheelchair much longer than expected.  The family is currently in the process of making their home more handicap accessible with a ramp at their front door, a ramp to the minivan, and a special bike for Evie to ride in the summer.
