Hi, My name is Esteban.
I'm 26 years old and married almost 2 years.
I was having a normal life with my wife, Kaitlyn, building memories and creating dreams until all of this started:
Earlier this year, I had some swelling in my neck. Since there was no pain we didn’t think much of it and just thought maybe it was allergies. Over time it became our “normal”, but it all changed on Friday, May 18th when a complete stranger asked me what was wrong with my neck.
I saw a doctor the following Monday and he took an X-Ray and collected blood samples. He said the results would be available the next morning. Shortly after getting home, the doctor called and said I had a large mass (about 6 inches) in my chest and he was referring me to an Oncologist for follow up.
To say the least, we were shocked, scared, terrified and confused. I didn’t have any symptoms and basically felt fine. We wondered if it could all be a mistake on reading the X-Ray or possibly the doctor was just being overly cautious.
My appointment with the Oncologist was scheduled for Friday, May 25th. Before the appointment I was scheduled for a CT Scan to provide a better-quality picture of whatever the X-Ray had shown.
We met with the Oncologist on Friday and he quickly said we think you have cancer. He reviewed the CT Scans with us and scheduled a more detailed test (PET Scan) and scheduled me to meet with a Surgeon for a biopsy. The Oncologist said he would be able to provide a complete diagnosis and recommend treatment once he received the results from the PET Scan and biopsy.
On Friday, June 8th all the test results were available and I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Treatment will include bi-weekly Chemotherapy for 6 months followed by radiation therapy for an unknown period of time.
Over the last month we’ve had our highs and lows, but we know “God’s got this” and we just need to continue believing.
