Erik's Fight Against Cancer

Erik is an active, upbeat 16-year-old boy from Whidbey Island. He had been suffering from a chronic cough and extreme fatigue for some time, so his mom brought him to the doctor for a routine checkup. They found his lymph nodes to be severely enlarged, and it was clear his body was aggressively fighting an infection that they believed could possibly be cancer.
On May 12, Erik was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Additional testing discovered it had spread further than they thought, and was in the beginning of stage 3.
It was determined at the time of diagnosis that he would need to begin treatment immediately. On May 18, surrounded by his family, Erik began chemotherapy two hours from home at the Children’s Hospital in Seattle.
Depending on how his body reacts to the treatment, he will need to reside in Seattle for 4 or 5 months to ensure he is close enough to the hospital, that if something goes wrong, they are able to care for Erik instantaneously.
Despite this unfathomable nightmare, Erik and his family stay positive and look forward to beating this disease so he can go home, where all children deserve to feel safe. However, it was recently discovered there is extensive mold in the walls of Erik’s home, and as you can imagine, this would be detrimental to Erik’s health. For his family, there was only one option: They will begin working to extensively remodel the home and eradicate the mold while Erik is in treatment so he has a safe place to come home to when finished.
Erik has a long road ahead of him, but his family has pulled together to become the strength he needs while he can’t be strong for himself, and they are determined to fight this battle right alongside him.
As you can imagine, this ordeal comes with a plethora of unknown, unplanned expenses, and any donations--no matter the amount--are greatly appreciated.
