Shannon is an amazing woman. She has never once let her Erb's palsey stop her. Through out her life, she has overcome every challenge presented to her. She never whined about the palsey being a problem. Not once. In fact I have known her 20 years + and year 2 of our friendship, I finally noticed she had something wrong. Just cause she went to open a packet of cheese and she did it very differently. She got pregnant early in her adult life, and had two children pretty much back to back. The girls dad was not as involved as should be, Shannon took it in stride. She figured ways to deal with challenges of single motherhood and the difficulty that Erb's could pose to her at times.
Fast forward to the last few years. Shannon has established herself in her medical carrer as a CNA, a difficult job at times for someone with one hand that is not full functioning. She has two beautiful daughters and is marrying a man who supports her decisions 100%, is a fantastic father figure to the two girls, and he is making huge efforts to help Shannon correct her palsey.
On 4/10, Shannon, Scott, and girls traveled from nearly Iowa to Ohio to meet with a doctor that has had huge sucess in operations to correct Erb's. The consensus was yes, Shannon's erb's palsey was correctable. It would be a challenge no doubt, but he has the confidence that Shannon is a great canidate for the surgeries. Surgeries? yes, multiple. 4 to be exact. Of course we all know nothing is 100% certain. There certainly could be more. But the game plan is 4. The 3rd being the most difficult. It will basically be a cast, and it will hold her arm near straight from her body and she will not be able to work at that time, nor after each surgery in between immediately following. The time table for surgeries is not set, but Shannon is filling out grant applications for the flight service for program, the program has grants also for medical expenses.
That wont cover her lost wages, nor her husband to be Scott's as he will travel with her. Nor childcare for the girls as they will miss school otherwise. A family cannot lose the wages without terrible repercussions. So this funding acct was created to help relieve the burden on this family and allow them the time they need without stress of the lost wages and medical debt.
Please consider blessing this family with whatever $ amount is in your budget. Thank you!
