This is Enzo. He’s a 9 month old Vizsla Lab mix. My poor baby was neglected as a puppy up until I bought him for $50 when he was 6 weeks old. At the time, I was going to school at NAU in Flagstaff, AZ. I drove roughly 3 hours to Concho, Arizona to pick him up. I chose him because he obviously had so much energy and wouldn’t stop picking on his siblings. The owner informed me that he was born and raised outside, despite being in the midst of winter. Once we brought him home we had to give him 3 baths to get him semi clean and tick/flea free. Also, he ate as if he hadn’t eaten in ages. That night, Enzo’s skin was inflamed and he was covered in hives. He was trying to scratch his paws and body on the carpet too. He was having an allergic reaction. We rushed him to urgent care where he was given two round of steroids for two days and later sent home with oral steroids. At the vet, we were also informed that he was febrile and severely underweight.
At 4 months old, Enzo was struck by a car. He had to undergo surgery as his right hind leg was broken in three places. The surgeon was unsure if he’d be able to repair Enzo’s leg. After surgery, Enzo was back to his old energetic/playful self. Unfortunately, he had to be crated for a month and given sedatives per doctor’s orders. He was on strict bed rest. After that month, he continued to limp. Now, he’s a bit pigeon toed, but is able to run and walk without limping.
Enzo is currently 9 months old and is sick. It has been a horrible week with one particular vet in San Diego continuously sending him home because they didn’t find anything wrong with him, despite him having obvious lethargy, a high fever, and a cough. It wasn’t until my baby started to cough up blood that they began to listen to me. I then had him transferred to another veterinary hospital in Escondido. We are unsure about how much exactly his treatment will cost as we still don’t have a diagnosis. He’s been lethargic, febrile, coughing up blood, and not eating/drinking. The vet has been running many tests, but we still don’t have an answer. As of right now, Enzo is being treated for dehydration and his fever. He’s only been getting worse. He may have Valley Fever (he may have obtained this where he was born since he was an outside puppy before me), pneumonia, or any viral or fungal illness.
As you can imagine, the medical bills are adding up and it’s getting really hard to pay them along with my regular monthly bills and student loans. At this point, I feel like my only option is to put off grad school and get a second job. Please, donate and/or share because anything helps. Enzo and I really need your help. I will continue to update you all as new information comes up. Enzo is my world. I'm so scared and feel like all of this is my fault. I love him so much and the thought of losing my best friend and emotional support animal is terrifying. I truly appreciate any help and support you can provide.
Thank you,
Janet and Enzo
