Dear Arts Supporters,
I’m reaching out to you with a heartfelt request on behalf of Enka High School’s choral program in Western Buncombe County. This year, I proudly assumed the role of choral director, stepping into a rich legacy of musical excellence that has shaped the lives of countless students. Unfortunately, our program has faced significant challenges, particularly following the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene, worsening the lingering effects on the performing arts due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Our community has experienced tremendous loss and disruption, with many lives turned upside down. Students just returned to school on October 25, after losing an entire month of instruction. As we rebuild and heal, we want to ensure that our choral program not only survives but thrives. This year, the district’s theme is “Together We Rise,” and we believe that music can be a powerful force for unity and resilience.
To support our students and ensure that every child has the opportunity to participate, we are launching a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of raising $20,000. This funding will allow us to make all choral activities completely free for our students for the year. This includes:
- Concerts: We want to showcase our talented students without any financial or other barriers to participation for students and their families, for whom attending concerts is vitally important.
- Trips: Our spring trip is vital for building camaraderie and promotes learning by ensuring students attend school, concerts, and meet academic and behavioral expectations. The cost for each student is anticipated at around $100.
- Uniforms: Uniform costs easily exceed $100, and we want every student to have one, regardless of their financial situation.
- Competitions and Activities: From smaller events to larger competitions, we want to remove financial barriers that may prevent students from participating.
Our aim is to serve 100 students throughout the year, ensuring that every child can experience the joy of singing and the power of community. The costs for various activities range from $25 to $200 per student, and with your generous support, we can eliminate these expenses and focus on what truly matters: making music together.
