Cambodia Encouragement & Planning
Donation protected
We left southern California to live and work with a medical mission in Cambodia, in September 2011. For three years, we lived and worked aboard the Ship of Life, providing medical, dental, and spiritual care for the those living in remote villages along the Mekong and Tonle Sap Rivers and Tonle Sap Lake.

Now, we have returned to the U.S., living in Iowa City. Our lives are typical, but forever changed. Since returning in August 2014, we have not been back. We have maintained contact with the people of Cambodia.

We are planning a return to Cambodia, in June 2016. During out two-week stay, we will revisit the major communities where we worked to encourage the workers and reinforce relationships with the people.
Also, we are developing new program, Hope Bridge, and will use this visit to evaluate the need and seek a local director. The name was selected because we hope to be able to create a bridge between current reality and hopes of the children.

While working in Cambodia, we were touched by the number of street children in the larger cities. While many did have a house to sleep in, they spent their days on the street selling trinkets to tourists and/or scamming them. One way we can attract the children by offering to teach English. Since they rely on interaction with tourists, they want to improve English. With time, we will introduce them to one of the local churches where they will have great opportunities interact with a caring and nurturing community. A second way we will attract them is by offering breakfast. Most of the children have a minimal breakfast, if any at all. As part of the breakfast process, we will teach them about basic nutrition, good hygiene, and Bible stories. These kids are street savvy and know how to talk to people. Given an opportunity to improve their communication skills and better life skills, these children can become better members of their community, as well as influential church members.

These funds will go towards our travel expense - airfare, lodging, and meals, as well as purchase of health supplies (tooth brush and tooth paste, soap, shampoo) to be given to the children.
Obviously, we have a passion for the underprivileged people in that part of the world. We believe we can make a difference in this developing country, by beginning to impact the children. We hope that you will choose to partner with us in this effort. Once we return, we will provide a full accounting of out efforts, on this website. $2,500 should be received by late February, in order to purchase tickets. The balance must be received by mid-May.
It may be that your donation is tax-deductible, if gifted through the Cuba Church of Christ, 51 Cuba School Rd., Mayfield, KY 42066. Checks may be made payable to the church, noting CAMBODIA FUND on the check.
