Introduction & Story: Kalobeyei Art Learning Center

Introduction:

The Kalobeyei Art Learning Center is a safe, creative space where refugee and host community youth in Turkana County in the refugees camp in Kenya come together to express, heal, and build hope through art. Located in the Kalobeyei settlement near Kakuma, this grassroots initiative empowers young people to develop their talents in visual arts, music, storytelling, and cultural expression.

Our Story:

In the heart of the arid lands of Turkana County lies Kalobeyei, a home to thousands of refugees and local communities living side by side. Amid challenges like displacement, trauma, and limited access to quality education or creative opportunities, a small group of passionate youth and artists came together with one goal — to create a place where art becomes a voice for those often unheard.

The Kalobeyei Art Learning Center was born from this vision. What started as a few painting sessions under a tree has grown into a community-driven space that nurtures creativity, emotional well-being, and cultural pride.
