Emily Quinn's Friends

Donation protected

As you may know, Emily Quinn passed away on May 15th.  Many of their friends have asked how to help Bryan and Amber.  If you are able to help with funeral expenses and the costs for her care, this fund is still active.  Thank you to everyone who cares so much for these amazing people and who loved this wonder of a child.

From Bryan's Facebook post:
Today our little miracle, Emily Quinn, departed from our world. Never could such a pain be imagined, to fight through the entire night for life, yet feel completely helpless.
Emily was such an incredible champion, who fought harder than any I've ever seen, but eventually her lungs became too damaged to function or recover. It all happened so fast. Yesterday I cuddled with my sweet angel, hopeful and optimistic that we finally had some answers, but in a matter of hours, her illness spread and, like that, she was gone.
Emily inspired and touched the lives of so many people in her short 13 months of life. She was able to teach me a lifetime of lessons in such a short time. She amazed many with her abilities, despite such a severely damaged brain. She was, and will forever be my greatest hero.
Emily, as your life slipped away, as we held you in our arms, your mother and I were filled with the joy and honor of having had the chance to be your parents. You are forever in our hearts and we will miss you so very much. I love you sweetheart, may you now find peace.

-Daddy

Amber and Bryan Griffin's daughter Emily Quinn came into the world with some challenges ahead of her.  No one could hope for better parents to love, support, and care for her and help her to do well in the world.

Emily was born on March 24th through Cesarean Section, premature at 37 weeks. Little Emily has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus, and her skull was significantly enlarged for her developmental stage, which is why the Cesarean Section and premature delivery was required. Emily required immediate surgery to relieve the pressure on her brain. It’s difficult to say with any certainty how the hydrocephalus will impact Emily’s development.

Bryan and Amber will have a lot on their hands. We can help with the easy part: we can eliminate some financial challenges for them.

Please read Amber's  blog about Emily's hydrocephalus and and the medical procedures she will face. Emily had surgery as soon as she was born, the first of a series that she'll need as she grows. Cord-blood transfusions will cost $4,000-11,000 each, and those will be repeated until the supply is used up.

Bryan and Amber have worked hard to create a stable, solid foundation to start their family. Bryan is a Marine who served his country in both Iraq and Afghanistan, and is now pursuing his Bachelor’s degree while working full time.  Amber is a preschool teacher, and Emily is their first child.  They are unhesitatingly there for us, their friends and family. We have an opportunity to support them so that they can give Emily the best chance any child could have to be happy and successful in life.

Please consider a gift of any amount. If you are able to commit to a monthly gift, that will help so much in the long-term because the medical need won't go away. The regular "I'm still here for you" will mean a whole lot to Bryan and Amber as time goes on. If you're able to contribute a larger amount, let's talk about ways to honor the over-the-top donors: maybe your name tattooed on Bryan...

But really, we--their friends and community--have the ability to make finances a non-problem for them. Any amount you can contribute, or any help you can offer, is appropriate.
