Emily Marsh's Medical Expenses

Emily Jayne Marsh was a healthy, smart 12 year old girl in September 2015.  Emily was a voracious reader, talented piano player, and an honor student.  As she started Junior High, she noticed her vision was degenerating.  She said it was like a curtain closing around her right eye.  After several doctor appointments, it was discovered that her optic nerve was inflamed.  She was treated for this and in November of 2015, we thought all was well.  However, it was just the beginning of her medical problems.  December 9th, she had a full body seisure.  She was playing the piano at the time.  Something she hasn't been able to do since.  Shortly after Christmas, she lost the ability to talk.  January was spent in the hospital, trying to figure out what was happening and what to do to stop the inflamation in her brain.  This inflamation has left her right arm and hand unuseable.  Her right leg is weak and she has to have support to walk.  It has been almost a year and we still don't know how to stop the inflamation caused by the T-cells attacking her brain.  Right now, she has a severe facial twitch.  Her right eye blinks all the time.  This twitch effects her eating and she has difficulty swallowing.  She has been in and out of the hospital many times during this year. Through all of this Emily has mostly remained postive and has endured her trials well.  The Doctors have tried many treatments with limited results.  We are now seeing some postive results with a drug called Remicade.  It costs almost $6000 a treatment.  Her insurance company is refusing to pay for this treatment.  She will need a treatment every month. This money would be used to support these treatments.  Emily's family is over burdened with hospital bills. Friends, neighbors, and extended family are doing what they can to help.  We have looked to the drug company and hospital for assistance but have been turned away.  We are, however, excited to find something that potentially could help Emily but concerned about the high monthly cost and the burden it places on an already taxed family.  Currently, Emily is on seven anti-seizure medications and hospital and doctor expenses continue to rise. If you can, please help us get the medicine Emily needs. We are hopeful that this new treatment will return Emily to her former self. Please help us,  it is so hard to watch her suffer.  We haven't heard her voice in almost a year.  As Emily's grandmother, I ask if you have a little extra, please help to bring our beautiful, smart, talented Emily back .  Thank you!
