As many of you know, Emil has been battling liver cancer for over the past 2 years. His surgery and chemotherapy regime has thankfully kept his cancer from progressing while he awaits a transplant, however, the medication has caused a neuropathic reaction, leaving him hospital-bound and unable to work since late May. Consequently, he has been saddled with health and living costs that will continue well beyond his stay and is looking for help from family, friends, and those who are compelled by his story.
About Emil:
Emil is a professional musician and Brooklyn-native, currently living in Washington Heights. He was trained as a double bassist at the Manhattan School of Music and Julliard from which he played professionally for his entire life. Some of his professional accomplishments include Principal Bass at the Caracas Philharmonic and Greenwich Symphony Orchestra as well as bassist for the New York City Opera and Kennedy Center Opera, Washington D.C., along with many other orchestras and chamber music groups.
Beyond the accolades he has recieved as a profesional performer, Emil has committed his life to teaching children, young adults and professionals the bass and classical music performance. Until his illness began to make it difficult for him to work, Emil had been an adjunct bass instructor at Hunter College as well as an instructor and conductor at the Children's Orchestra Society. You can see a video of him instructing the chamber music group below.

He was also a private bass teacher for students around the tri-state area including me. Emil had been my teacher for 12 years and I would not be where I am today without his incredible teaching of discipline and art.
We are starting a Go Fund Me to help with his medical copays, his rent to prevent eviction, his cellphone bill so he can maintain contact with his loved ones, and potentially an at home nursing service for when he returns home.
Any left over cash will be donated to the Al Hirshfield Clinic which provies free primary care to uninsured artists around NYC. More information about this non-profit can be found here: http://www.actorsfund.org/others/pdfs/NY/ClinicBrochure.pdf
Thank you for your help and support!
Sincerely,
Justin Steinfeld
