Emergency Help Needed for Widow of Songwriter
Donation protected
American Hall of Fame songwriter, Hugh Prestwood, died on September 22, 2024, following a stroke – he was 82. Hugh left behind his beloved wife of 37 years, Judy Ahrens.
Over the years, Hugh penned country hits for artists like Trisha Yearwood, Crystal Gayle, Randy Travis, Judy Collins and many more. Among his award-winning songs were, “The Song Remembers When, Hard Rock Bottom of Your Heart, Ghost in This House, Hard Times for Lovers, Asking Us to Dance,” and many others.
When Hugh and Judy married in 1987, Hugh was on the verge of becoming one of the most legendary story-telling songwriters in Nashville, and Judy was an award-winning photographer. Hugh and Judy perfected their craft and settled outside of New York City.
As time passed, Hugh’s livelihood diminished significantly due to the changes in the music industry, and he was eventually forced to sell his song copyrights to make ends meet. Then, in 2021, Hugh suffered a severe spinal injury that left him disabled and no longer able to work. After the accident, Hugh and Judy relocated to Nebraska where the cost of living was more affordable.
Regretfully, when Hugh passed in September, Judy was left with a significant amount of debt and virtually no income other than her Social Security. Between living expenses and medical bills, Judy's financial situation has become desperate, and eviction is a looming concern.
Anything you can contribute to help ends meet would be a much-appreciated blessing. Thank you.
