I am Ellen Hoffman, musician, composer and music educator. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. After you read my story, you will understand why my project is called Help Ellen’s Song Send A Message!
A few months ago, in Feb. 2018, I watched a heart-breaking video of a father who had just lost his daughter. She was one of 17 victims in the school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. His anguish affected me deeply. I don't know anyone who lives in Parkland. It could have been anywhere. I was compelled to write a song; it is an expression straight from my soul.
I have invited thirteen school-aged singers, ages 8-17,
to record the song with professional musicians: a string quartet, piano, bass, and drums.
I hope that when people hear the song and see the video, they will feel their hearts open. I hope that they will feel a call to action!
Help Ellen’s Song Send A Message! by doing two things: make a donation, and share.

Recording and video recording are expensive! I estimate that this project will cost approximately $4000.00 to complete.
Cost breakdown:
- $1500 Musician fees (7 professional musicians) rehearsing & recording
- $1100 Studio fees (recording, editing, mixing)
- $1100 Videographer (shooting & editing)
- $200 Lights rental & music copying
- $100 Miscellaneous
When the song and video are completed, they will be posted on YouTube, iTunes, and Facebook to help spread the message! I hope YOU will share as well!
After all expenses are paid (see cost breakdown), I will make a donation, in my name, using the Gofundme link,
to the Stoneman Douglas Victims Fund.
