Let's Rally for DMRS

Tax deductible
I came with my parents, I was four years old. So I didn’t know what was happening. We just crossed, running, hiding, for me it was like a game. I didn’t know what was happening. It was really difficult for us to stay here, barely. A lot of times they wanted to go back. Because he (my Dad) didn’t have a job, because we couldn’t pay the rent. We moved a lot of times because we didn’t have money. And my Mom didn’t speak the language either. He didn’t know how to drive so we walked. We used the bus. It was really difficult for us. When we went to the stores and we saw like a police in front of us and we left. We would leave all the stuff and just leave. Because we were scared even of the police. We didn’t go to parks a lot because there’s police, we didn’t drive a lot.

My Mom was a victim of a crime. My aunt’s husband, he came into my Mom’s house and he robbed everything, money, everything he could, TV’s, everything, everything, and he left the gas open for like two hours. And when my Mom came it smelled a lot so she called the police. They told her that if she would of, if my Mom would have turned on the lights everything would have exploded. The owner of Annunciation House, he told us that we could get a U Visa because she (my Mom) was the victim of, she was a victim of a crime. So we started looking, and the lawyers they were too, too expensive. So we, we, my Mom didn’t want to do it. Then Ruben Garcia, brought us here, he brought us here, and they gave us the cost and everything, and my Dad said no.
But they helped us a lot. They helped us with everything, with money, with how to do things, they did everything for us. We thought we wouldn’t be able to get it, because sometimes it’s too expensive, it’s too expensive. It’s a lot of work, it’s writing like four letters in English. My parents don’t know English. It’s bringing a lot of papers, papers from since you got here so you don’t have them, like receipts, and everything. And it’s like impossible. To believe, to believe, to believe. Because it’s true. It’s true you’re going to get your residence. They’re going to help you a lot.
Because my kids need it. Because my kids need me. Because my kids need me to be, to be legal. So I did it because of them. I feel more safe. I’m not scared to see the Border Patrol. It changed my life a lot. To believe in DMRS. To believe that you can be, you can be part of this society too. You can have a social security card, you can have an ID. You can go to school. You can believe in DMRS.

Due to the many changes that the current administration has made and continues to make in immigration policies and procedures, DMRS is experiencing a reduction in federal grant revenues for these purposes. This reduction in federal revenues affects the ability of the organization to provide effective, cost-efficient, legal immigration services to its clients.

DMRS serves an average of 25,000 people per year. Our services run the gamut from information given over the phone to full legal representation in immigration court before an Immigration Judge. The majority of our clients---95%---receive free services.
