Eilleen/Mom is the kindest, most gererous woman. She started her service to others as a Franciscan Nun, in Cleveland where she attended nursing school. She left the convent for another calling to serve others as Pediatric Nurse and amazing Mother! Mom dedicated her life to helping others as a Pediatric Nurse at Mercy Hospital and ER Nurse at Michael Reese Hospital. She dedicated her life for 50+ years as a nurse. In her spare time she was a Rape victim Advocate, advid gardner and volutnteer Chicago Park District, South Shore Country Club annual flower sale.
In December mom had chest pains and was taken to U of C hospital, where she contracted Covid. She recovered after 30 day hospital stay. Thankfully she recovered with no residuals from Covid. She did suffer from delerium being in early stage dementia, from isolation in hospital. She was sent to Rehab/ Nursing facility to overcome her delerium and be rehabilitated from hospital stay. This is not what happened. Quite the opposite happened. I removed her from Rehab, as they were not giving her proper care. I arranged to have her come home, she was not the same nor near her baseline (early onset Dementia ) of her intial journey into hospital and rehab.
Mom has been home from the hospital since March. Her wishes were to be home and not in nursing facility. I am doing my very best with help of Alex her caretaker. It has been very challenging and costly, as her caretaker and many supplies are out of pocket. I am currently unable to work as living with her 5-6 days a week as primary caregiver . We are in need of finacial assistance for her proper care with supplies and services not covered by insurance.
She is happy to be back in her home and familiar environment. Mom requires round the clock care and supplies for her comfort and safety as she is is now bedbound. We are asking for your assistance to continue to provide her with comfort and dignity which she deserves.
Moms current condition is Late Stage Dementia
She has loss of many physical abilities.
She does not have ability to walk, wash, dress and feed herself. She has a feeding tube to maintain her nutrition. When she does eat , it's for pleasure, soft and pureed food to prevent aspiration as she had difficulty swallowing.
Mom has suffered strokes, heart failure, she has an ICD. She's confined to a bed and can be transferred to wheelchair, when she is calm.
These are some of the challenges we are facing.
• Increased difficulty communicating
• increasing difficulty in understanding what is said or what is going on around them.
• She is often nervous and scared, sometimes not recognizing us. Unable to communicate how she is feeling at times. She is gradually losing her speech, limited communication. She cries out for often, asking to go home. This disease is heart breaking.
Mom dedicated her life to helping those in need. Please help me to help get proper care with comfort and dignity.
