Educate Haiti: Adopt-A-Child

Haiti desperately struggles with severe poverty. Haitians are in a constant fight to survive, as 59% of them are living below the national poverty line, making this situation the most severe in the western hemisphere. And poverty in Haiti drastically affects its people in many aspects of everyday life. What we have come to learn from spending time with many impoverished people is that these unfortunate folks are simply looking for an opportunity. It’s what they desire most of all. And the #1 thing that is needed to give people opportunity for a brighter future is basic education. Unfortunately, Haiti suffers from one of the lowest literacy rates (61%) in the western hemisphere. Many poor Haitian families greatly desire to enroll their children in primary education, however, they are not able to pay tuition. The cost of tuition for one student grades K-12 is approximately $125/year (which is ~$10.50/month).
The St Jude Parish serves the poorest of the poor in the Port-au-Prince area of Haiti. Working with the pastor of St Jude Parish, we are setting up a program, “Educate Haiti: Adopt-A Child.” We are seeking to raise monies to send impoverished children, whose families cannot afford tuition, to school this September 2018. St Jude Parish will oversee enrollment of the children in schools and will provide progress updates during the school year to those who wish to receive them.
Please help as much or as little as you can afford. Even your contribution of $5 will go a long way to help these needy and dire children to obtain a better quality of life in the future. Being able to read and write affords a child dignity and hope for a brighter future.
We can only extend our sincere gratitude for your kindness and generosity. It means so much to these children, who are part of the bottom billion and marginalized and who suffer daily from the impacts of poverty.
With Sincere Thanks, Martina Molsbergen-Tamaro
