Ed’s Battle Against Squamous Cell Carcinoma: Join the Fight!
Donation protected
Edward Hearn is more than just a name; he’s a devoted husband, a loving father and stepfather, and the unshakable rock of our family. Now, as he faces the toughest battle of his life, we’re rallying together to provide him with the emotional and financial support he needs to emerge victorious against squamous cell carcinoma of the throat and neck.
In the spring of 2024, Ed began noticing troubling symptoms: difficulty eating and swallowing, and a rapidly growing lump on his neck. Without medical insurance at the time—due to the overwhelming cost of self-funded healthcare—seeking immediate care was a challenge. By August 2024, Ed had secured health insurance and was swiftly diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. The disease advanced so quickly that he required an emergency tracheostomy to maintain airflow below the tumor. Since then, Ed has been unable to eat or drink normally and has relied on a feeding tube, leading to a significant 60-pound weight loss from his natural 180-pound frame.
Ed’s fight has been nothing short of relentless. Setback after setback, including infections, hemorrhaging, and the invasive progression of the cancer, has kept him in post-acute treatment centers and currently in the ICU at Loma Linda University Medical Center. Despite these challenges, Ed’s unyielding spirit—his gritty, never-quit attitude—continues to shine.
Once discharged from the ICU, Ed will embark on a demanding treatment regimen of concurrent chemotherapy and radiation, five days a week for seven weeks. The journey ahead is arduous, but with your support, we can help ensure Ed has every resource he needs to fight and recover.
The funds from this campaign will go directly toward:
- Medical bills and essential treatments
- Temporary housing near his treatment center (his home is a 3-4 hour round-trip commute)
- Transportation costs
- Basic necessities such as food, medications, and essential bills
- Lost wages for Ed, who has been unable to work since July 2024
- Supplementing lost wages for his life partner, Lisa, so she can take time off work to provide full-time at-home care and emotional support during Ed’s recovery
We know that long-term illnesses come with countless unexpected expenses, and every contribution—no matter the size—makes an incredible difference. If you’re unable to donate, please consider resharing Ed’s story on social platforms, via email, text, or even word of mouth. Your support helps create a web of visibility and care around Ed’s fight.
From the depths of our hearts, we thank you for standing with Ed and our family in this battle. We will keep you updated every step of the way as we fight for Ed’s recovery.
