Hi, my name is Edgard Bonilla. I have just finished my undergraduate program in Physics at the Simón Bolivar University in Venezuela and I need your help to continue my academic training. I was admitted to the Physics Graduate Program at Stanford University and I am very excited to begin classes in September this year.
I very much enjoyed my studies here at Venezuela the last five years and I found the subjects of study in Physics absolutely fascinating. As a consequence, I was able to make a series of achievements along with the fun involved in working in physics. For instance, I won the “Best USB Student” award in 2013, became a founding member of ¿Por Qué Ciencias? (Why sciences?) student group, did research at the Condensed Matter and Complex Systems Laboratory, and my undergraduate project “Networks and Complexity, some Applications” was recently approved with honors.
I am proud of having studied at my alma mater, the Simón Bolivar University, as I got an excellent preparation in my undergraduate program. However, as a future researcher, I must explore new horizons and prepare myself to learn about new perspectives and ways of thinking. Therefore I see in the Graduate Program at Stanford a fantastic opportunity to develop my true potential, to continue my education as a scientist, and to learn and grow even more; so that in the future I will be able to apply my knowledge and abilities to help to overcome the challenges and difficulties of our future.
Stanford University offers me help in the form of Assistantships to cover my tuition and to account for my living expenses starting the second month of studies. The money to cover the trip to Palo Alto and my expenses during the first month must be covered by myself. The approximated amount is 3,600 USD (1,600 USD the flight ticket + 2000 USD living expenses). For me and my family in Venezuela this is an impossible amount to attain and that is why I am asking for your solidarity and support.
The goal of this fundraising campaign is set at 4000 USD to cover for the deductions done by the GoFundMe staff (to which I am sincerely grateful for making this fundraising possible)
Finally I want to thank you very much in advance for all the help you could provide me to overcome this financial difficulties. Either for donating to reach the goal and through sharing the link of this campaign. I will keep you informed about everything and will post updates for each step we make towards the goal.

Hola mi nombre es Edgard Bonilla, acabo de completar mis estudios de pregrado en física en la Universidad Simón Bolívar en Venezuela y necesito su ayuda para poder continuar mi formación académica. Me admitieron para estudiar el doctorado en Física en la Universidad de Stanford en Estados Unidos y estoy muy entusiasmado por comenzar las clases en Septiembre de este año.
Disfruté enormemente mi carrera los últimos cinco años y sentí un gran interés en todos los tópicos que estudiamos. Como consecuencia, además de la diversión, he cosechado una serie de logros a través de mi trabajo: en 2013 gané el premio “Mejor Estudiante USB”, participé activamente en la agrupación de divulgación científica ¿Por Qué Ciencias?, me graduaré con un promedio de 4.7655 / 5, participé en una investigación en el Laboratorio de Sistemas Complejos y Materia Condensada, y mi tesis ¨Redes y Complejidad, Algunas Aplicaciones¨ fue aprobada con mención sobresaliente la semana pasada.
Le guardo muchísimo cariño a mi Universidad Simón Bolívar y siento que me preparó excelentemente en mi pregrado, sin embargo, como investigador debo explorar nuevos horizontes y maneras innovadoras de comprender el mundo que nos rodea. Es por eso que veo en el programa de Stanford una oportunidad fantástica para poder desarrollar mi potencial verdadero, continuar mi formación como científico y poder crecer y aprender más para así luego aplicar mis conocimientos en los retos y problemas que nos depara el futuro.
La Universidad de Stanford me ofrece ayuda en forma de beca/trabajo (Assistanships), que cubre la matrícula y además sirve para pagar mis gastos de habitación y alimentación a partir del segundo mes de mi estadía. El traslado hasta Palo Alto y los gastos del primer mes corren por mi cuenta y el costo aproximado es de 3,600 dólares (1,600 USD vuelo + 2,000 USD de costos de vida). Para mi familia y para mí nos es imposible reunir esa cantidad y por ello recurro a su solidaridad y apoyo.
La meta fijada para esta campaña es de 4,000 USD para tomar en cuenta las deducciones hechas por el equipo de GoFundMe (a quienes agradezco enormemente por hacer esta campaña posible).
Finalmente, quiero agradecer de antemano toda la ayuda que puedan proveerme para superar esta barrera económica, mediante su aporte monetario y a través de la difusión de esta campaña. Los mantendré informados de cada avance y actualizaremos por cada meta conseguida.
