My name is Patricia Carter- Goodheart, and I am trying to raise funds for my dear cousin, Edward.

Edward, or EJ as I call him, has just been released from a terrifying 15 day stay, some of which was spent in the intensive care unit, at the Providence Medical Center, following near fatal heart failure and two strokes. For our family, for Ed and his daughter Natalie, this has been unbelievably surreal.  You  see, Ed is only 34. 



Many make the mistake of associating  this type of medical incident  with people of a certain age, certain lifestyle, etc. But it can truly happen to anyone.

Some of you may know Ed, some of you might not. He is a single father, taking the best care possible of his 9 year old daughter Natalie.  He is hard working. He is a romantic. He loves his job and the people he works with. My cousin is full of life, witty, and so very charming.




Sadly, the insurance company is only willing to pay for so much, the rest will have to be out pocket. There are many expenses that come from treating heart failure and multiple strokes. 

His expenses include co-pays for office visits, weekly labs & tests, cardiac physical therapy to strengthen his heart and occupational therapy to regain his motor function, as well as precription refills. This will be long road to recovery. 

We will continue to do whatever we can to have Aetna insurance pay their rightful part. But with only so much of the billing making it's way through the mail, we are unsure of what the full medical costs will truly end up costing. And this is a scary place to be- fearful of the future for both his health... and his finances. 

So this is why we decided to fundraise amongst friends and family. In the spirit of proactivity and not fear, we are going forward.
