Ed has a collapsed vertebrate.

Ed has osteoporosis.

Ed is recovering from brain surgery where he had 1/3 of his pituitary gland removed because of a tumor. Ed is swimming to get stronger.

Ed typically swims 125 yds each day that he swims, (and 500 yds on Saturdays).

Ed needs a milestone, and that's why he signed up to swim 5 miles in September to help the American Cancer Society (ACS) fight for a world without cancer.
