Help for Echo!

Good evening everyone. Thank you for taking a moment to read Echo’s story. Today (1-3-2016) was a very bittersweet day for us. Today our crazy, goofy, loving dog, Echo returned home. She went missing last Tuesday (12-29-2015). Her and her sister, Roxy, tend to be escape artists and got out of the fence and had a hay day, I’m sure! Roxy returned home that same day but without Echo. We posted her beautiful face to just about every facebook page we could think of. Many of you shared her picture and helped in trying to bring her home and we are so grateful for that! We were convinced that someone saw her and took her home to claim her as their own. If only that were the case now. At about noon today, here comes Echo hobbling down the street. Of course we were ecstatic, but as she came closer we knew something was wrong. You could see the relief in her eyes that she was finally home. Home where someone would help her. Our hearts broke when we realized that our crazy echo had been dismembered and broken. The most obvious was that her previously huge, wagging, happy tail was gone. Just ripped from her body. Nothing left of it. Then we found that her right back foot was mangled into pieces. One side completely gone, down to the bone and the pad on the sole of her foot was missing, as if it just fell off. She just collapsed in the living room floor, whimpering with tears falling from her now sad eyes. We quickly rushed her to the vet and as soon as we got there they took her to the back and started her on pain meds and fluids. They came to us with her prognosis and an estimate. They believe that she may have gotten caught in a trap of some sort and possibly had to chew her own tail off to get loose. The vet was very hopeful that she could save Echo’s foot with a lot of recovery time of course. Her tail is a different story. It has been ripped off all the way to the end. There is nothing left of it. The vet said that depending on how much tissue and nerve damage there was that it would determine whether or not she would live the rest of her life with incontinence or possible paralysis. She also has horrible infection in both wound sites and severe dehydration. They wanted to do some x-rays and blood work to determine whether or not anything was broken, how badly the tail was severed and if it damaged her spine. They said that she would most definitely need surgery on her tail and that her foot could heal over time with various treatments and dressing changes. The estimated total that they were able to give to us was around $2,900. With my sister and I both being single parents and full-time students, we were devastated. There’s no way that we can pull that out of our hat! My dad came to the rescue and was able to pay for all of her diagnostic testing and initial meds to get her stable and comfortable. We went home and awaited the phone call for the results of the testing to determine the next step. The vet called a few hours ago with unfortunate news. She said that Echo’s foot is so badly hurt that it will be extremely difficult for her to bear any weight on it, so we are now having to consider amputation. Her x-rays showed no internal damage to her abdominal organs including her bladder and bowel. The x-rays did show a fracture to her pelvis of which we will have more information about tomorrow. With the updated information, we expect for her previous bill total to rise and her condition to be much worse than we anticipated. We will be sure to update everyone as soon as we have word in the morning. As I’m sure you’re aware, just like with humans, they cannot proceed with her treatment until they have payment. We are reaching out to all of you for help. I know and understand that ya’ll have your own busy lives with responsibilities and such but anything that you can do to help is more than appreciated. Even if it’s just $1 or 1 share or 1 prayer. We are asking ya’ll to please help save our Echo’s life. She fought hard to survive and make it home after almost a week of what I’m sure was absolute hell for her and she deserves to live this life! Thank you so very very much for any and everything that you can do! WARNING: Below are some graphic pictures of Echo's wounds and of her estimated vet bill. Thank you again to everyone that helps out in anyway they can! We have tons of love for all of you!
