Help fund Easter Sunday

Internet, art enthusiasts, fellow queer-dos & allies!

Six powerhouse female thespians need your support to take Carolyn Gage’s latest play, Easter Sunday, to Dublin’s International Gay Theater Festival in May.
We are a pack of dancers, singers, bloggers, puppeteers, directors, you name it, who have been offered a slot in the 15th annual IDGT Festival! (http://www.gaytheatre.ie

Our Project:

This will be the world premiere of Easter Sunday, a heavy hitting story set in Morningside Heights, NY in the 1960s. The play surrounds Marty Mann, the first female founding member of the iconic program, Alcoholics Anonymous. Marty helped remove the stigma of alcoholism by reframing it as a disease rather than a fault in character. She shed the fixation on morality, focusing instead on mental/physical health.

The power of visibility is instrumental to affirming identities, providing role models, and preserving excluded perspectives that would otherwise be tossed aside. By setting a butch female as the protagonist of our play, we are making visible the conflict that existed within the intersection of personal identity and social construct, then and now.

Proudly acing the Bechdel test, we take on the important responsibility of ensuring that the audience hears a female voice and that queer histories can be shared on a platform as raw and diverse as our community.

The play goes not glamorize the individual, but instead presents the audience with an honest, dynamic, gritty account of what struggle, growth, and perseverance looks like – a resurrection of hope.

What we’re asking for:

We are fighting the stigma that surrounds asking for money for art and asking for help funding the logistics of our production! The funds will go towards plane tickets & lodging for our cast & crew of 5, a breakdown of which you will find below:

Plane Tickets: $453 each (x5) = 2,265

Lodging in Dublin: $430 each (x5) = $2153

Total cost of taking the production to the festival: $4,418

The remaining $582 will go towards costumes, props, set design, etc...

Any contributions are greatly appreciated, and whether you can or cannot donate, please share this link with others!

If we are lucky enough to exceed our goal, the funds will go directly to compensating these artists for their work, because it is (after all) work.

We will be keeping all our supporters updated with the play’s progress as we move forward, so keep an eye out!
